Our Homeschool Journey

Beginning in September of this year (2011), I will begin our home school journey with Wyatt and Bristol.  Wyatt will be turning 3 in June and has always been so eager to learn.  I chose September to begin as this is when Bristol will turn 2.  I felt they would both be at good ages to start semi-formally schooling them.  I know that Pre-school is not mandatory.  However, I feel they both are developmentally ready to begin and most importantly, they WANT to learn.  Our pre-school will not be forced or very formal, but I think it will be a great way to ease both me and the kids into the transition of home schooling so we can adjust to adding into our already hectic schedule.

I have always known I wanted to home school my kids even before I had children.  Thankfully, God blessed our family so that I could become a stay at home mom soon after Wyatt turned 1.  This set everything in motion that I could indeed home school.  I began researching curriculum, laws and other homeschooling information about a year ago.  I wasn't exactly sure how I wanted to school or even when I wanted to start schooling.  This was when I was lead to blogs/websites of some very inspirational women who have given me so much wealth of information; Carisa with 1plus1plus1equals1, Jolanthe with Homeschool Creations, and Erica with Confessions of a Homeschooler.  (I really could add so many more to that list!)  With the information and resources these women share on their websites, I have been able to figure out where to start, what to do and how to go about it all with starting our homeschooling journey.

The one thing I always like to see is what other moms who have children my age are currently doing.  Through the link-ups, I can go to other blogging, homeschooling moms who have children my age and see what activities they are currently doing.  This has made it so much easier in figuring out a guideline of what to do with my children to get them started.  It is just amazing the wealth of information I have found through all these blogs!  I am so very thankful!

For those of you curious, my current plan is to start Bristol in Carisa's Tot School.  As for Wyatt, he will be in Erica's Letter of the Week Preschool Curriculum.  I did purchase Carisa's Raising Rock Stars Preschool, but I think we will transition more into it once we have completed the Letter of the Week.  I am still in the planning stages, and I know all children are different.  The great thing about this being semi-formal is that we can adjust and change things up as needed for both.

I will be sure to update this page as our plans change or we move to different curriculum.  If you want to follow along in our journey, I will be tagging all post each week with the labels Tot School and LOTW.
